First-Ever Cougar Country Burger Week Set for October 19–24
Get ready, McLean County ; it’s time to come hungry!
The first-ever Cougar Country Burger Week, presented by Green River Wine & Spirits, 97X and 89 Angels Inc. is set for October 19–24, bringing local restaurants and food businesses together for six days of great burgers, friendly competition, and giving back to the community. Throughout Burger Week, participating locations will offer a special featured burger for just $9, with $1 from every Burger Week burger sold going to 89 Angels Inc. BF Evans Ford is also joining the event as a sponsor.
For its inaugural year, Cougar Country Burger Week has a lineup that gives McLean County plenty of reasons to eat local.
Geno’s Pizza will serve The Hot Mess, featuring a 100% beef patty topped with fire-braised peppers, pepper jack and mozzarella cheeses, and Geno’s pizza sauce.
Hillbilly’s BBQ is bringing the Brisket Bandito, featuring a grilled brisket patty, house-made pico de gallo, pepper jack cheese, chipotle crema, and tortilla chips inside a grilled flour tortilla.
Gilbert’s Grill will feature the Sweet Heat Molten Burger, a jalapeño popper burger topped with candied bacon.
The Farmhouse Restaurant & Catering is entering the Saucy Ninnie, a six-ounce hand-pattied burger topped with white American cheese, bacon crumbles, candied jalapeños from Pond River Produce, and caramelized onions cooked in its special Ninnie Sauce.
Laurie’s Souper Savor will offer its Brisket Cheeseburger, while El Ranchito will serve the Ranchero’s Burger, featuring beef, lettuce, mayo, grilled onions, tomato, cheese and mushrooms, served with fries.
Rampstop Market, Farley’s and Midnight Mommas Sweets are also officially taking part in Cougar Country Burger Week, with details on their featured creations still to be announced.
Of course, Burger Week wouldn’t be complete without some friendly competition. A panel of local judges will evaluate the featured burgers throughout the week, with one business ultimately earning the inaugural Hotter Than Hugh Award, sponsored by Stephanie Wright with Greater Owensboro Realty and Hotter Than Hugh Hot Sauce. The winner will be announced at Calhoun Harvest Day on October 24, right before Tailgate takes the stage, giving the first Cougar Country Burger Week a fitting finish.
Cougar Country Burger Week is about more than finding a great burger. It’s an opportunity for people throughout McLean County and the surrounding area to support local businesses, try something new, and give back to the community. Every Burger Week burger purchased puts another dollar toward 89 Angels, Inc.
So from October 19–24, grab your friends and family and make your way around Cougar Country. Try your favorites, discover a new spot, and see which creation you think deserves to be crowned the first Burger Week champion.
Nine participating locations. Six days. $9 burgers. $1 from every burger sold benefiting 89 Angels Inc. And one Hotter Than Hugh Award winner.
