As a veteran, I have always believed that some stories are easier to share through music.
That belief is at the heart of Enlisted: Songs From a Veteran. This project was created to give veterans a way to tell their stories, work through their experiences and remind others that they are not alone. These songs come from real lives, real sacrifices and real emotions that many veterans and their families understand all too well.
On Thursday, September 24, those stories will come to life during Enlisted: Songs From a Veteran Live at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The event begins at 6 p.m. and is completely free.
Goldie Payne will host this special evening featuring Dan Hall, James Elliott, Corey Merritt, Joe Christian, Chris Joslin, Randy Lanham, Sarah and me, Jeff “Wildman” Hardesty and more.
This is more than a concert. It is a night of music, storytelling, healing and connection. Some of the songs may bring back memories. Others may put words to feelings that have been difficult to explain. My hope is that every veteran in attendance walks away knowing that their story matters and that they do not have to carry everything alone.
Military service affects the entire family, which is why this invitation is also for veterans’ spouses, children and loved ones. Whether you served yourself, supported someone who did or simply want to show your appreciation for those who wore the uniform, you are welcome.
I am grateful to everyone who has helped make this project and this event possible. Bringing these songs to the stage alongside so many talented people is something I do not take lightly.
