🌾 For this week’s Meal in the Field, we spent some time with Brad Doolin and his family.
Brad is a fourth-generation farmer who still works alongside his grandfather, dad, and uncle. Together, they raise corn and soybeans and tend to cattle, putting in long hours and hard work to keep the farm running. For the Doolin family, farming is just as much a job as it is a generational passion.
We learned a pretty funny piece of family history while visiting. When Brad was about five years old, he bought his great-grandfather’s John Deere tractor for just $1 (pretty cheap for a tractor!). Brad eventually had the tractor fully restored, and today, his grandson calls it his tractor.
The Doolins all live on the farm together, with their houses close enough that they can see each other’s porches. Brad hopes to one day pass the farm down to his sons, son-in-law, and grandson, continuing the family tradition for another generation.
We were grateful for the chance to share a meal with Brad and his family and recognize the hard work, family values, and passion they continue to put into their farm every day.
