🌾 Meal in the Field is back for the Autumn season! For the first week, we spent some time with Conrad DuPlooy and his crew at Horn Farms in Philpot, KY.
Conrad originally moved to Kentucky from South Africa about six years ago, a big geographical leap that we found very interesting. But his experience in farming goes back much further. He’s been farming for around 32 years, bringing decades of experience with him while building a life and farm here in our community.
We learned that family is a big part of life on the farm for Conrad. He and his wife are raising two young children, one nearly four years old and the other just 18 months, while Conrad continues to put in the long days that come with farming. Thankfully, he has a good crew alongside him to help keep everything moving.
Something else that stood out to us was the importance Conrad and his family place on faith and giving back. Horn Farms makes time to support agricultural education in local schools and organizations like Head Start, helping introduce young people to agriculture and the values that come with it.
Long days, family, faith, and a commitment to the next generation all go hand-in-hand at Horn Farms. We were grateful for the chance to share a meal with Conrad and his crew and recognize the work they put into their farm and their community!
