For this week’s Meal in the Field, we spent some time with Andy Seymour and his family in Calhoun, KY.
Andy has been around farming his entire life. We learned that the very first time he drove a tractor by himself, he was only five years old! Today, he continues through a wide variety of work, including growing greenhouse lettuce for local restaurants and being involved with Kentucky Proud.
One thing that stood out to us was how forward-thinking Andy is when it comes to agriculture. He’s especially knowledgeable with electronics and technology on the farm, so much so that other farmers often call him for help and advice in that area. He also serves on the Planning and Zoning Committee, where he helps stand up for the interests of local farmers and the future of agriculture in his community.
Outside of farming, Andy enjoys adventure bike riding and scuba diving, but he told us one of the most rewarding parts of farming is getting to do it alongside family, which said a lot about the kind of person he is.
We were grateful for the chance to share a meal with Andy and recognize the hard work, knowledge, and heart he brings to both his farm and the people around him.
