This week on the Volunteer Owensboro Minute, presented by American Legion Post 9, I sat down with Alondra Jones, Executive Director of CASA of Ohio Valley, to talk about how they’re serving children in our community.
What is CASA?
CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates.
These are trained volunteers appointed by a judge to advocate for children who are in the court system due to abuse or neglect. They are not attorneys or social workers. They are community members who step up to be a consistent voice for a child during one of the hardest seasons of their life.
They make sure kids don’t get overlooked. They show up. They speak up. They stay involved.
Champion for the Child – April 16 & 17
CASA has their Champion for the Child event coming up on April 16th and 17th. They will be providing Grilled Chicken Sandwich box lunches to the community.
This is an easy way to support their mission. Order lunches for your office, your staff, or your team, and at the same time you are helping CASA continue advocating for children right here in the Ohio Valley.
It’s simple and it makes an impact.
The Power of Volunteers
We talked about how CASA runs on volunteers. These individuals go through training and commit their time to walking alongside a child in the court system. There are always more children who need advocates.
That means there is room for more Champions in our community.
Owensboro has always been a place that shows up. Whether it’s ordering a box lunch or stepping into a volunteer role, every bit of support helps.
Every child deserves someone in their corner.
That’s this week’s Volunteer Owensboro Minute, highlighting the people making a difference right here at home.
