(Owensboro, KY): Windy Hollow Speedway hosted Night No. 2 of the Bluegrass Street Stock War Presented by Kelley Trucking on Saturday.
Many drivers from across the Southeast stayed overnight from Friday, while some new faces joined the stiff field for the Saturday portion of the weekend.
One of the new faces for Saturday was a familiar one. Owensboro’s Tyler Nicely entered the event driving the No. 5 entry, a car that he crew-chiefed on Friday for Matt Kelley.
Nicely sent notice to fellow competitors early in the evening by setting fast time in Group B with a lap of 15.678, earning the $100 qualifying bonus from EZ Auto Sales & Parts.
Hawesville’s Blaze Melton would lead the Group A qualifiers with a fast time of 16.218, also earning the $100 bonus from Scott Slaton and EZ Auto Sales & Parts.
After qualifying, the field was divided into four groups for heat races. Blaze Melton would take the checkers in heat 1 with Megan Erwin, Tyler Nicely and Lucas Lee taking the honors in the other three 10-lap heat races.
For the feature, the field of competitors gave the fans a four-wide salute led by three Kelley Trucking semis around the 3/8 mile oval.
When the green flag dropped, No. 5 on Tyler Nicely set sail leading all 40 laps of the feature and taking home the win and cashing in not only on the $5000 feature win, but also all 40 sponsored laps totaling $1,516 in bonus money from those who sponsored specific laps during the event.
In the American Sprint Car Tour 30-lap feature, Race Wisconsin’s Derek Crane swept the weekend and the month at Windy Hollow Speedway. Crane, who won on Labor Day weekend also won on Friday night at Windy Hollow.
In the Rusty Bolt class, Collin Boone scored his first career feature win. The third-generation racer was surrounded by family and friends in Windy Hollow Speedway victory lane.
