The proposed Gateway Commons retail-residential-entertainment complex on 54 is going to be incredibly expensive – over $335M – but developers claim it’s going to be worth the tens of millions of tax dollars involved. A new study from Commonwealth Economics predicts tens of millions in tax revenues. Tuesday Owensboro assistant city manager and city attorney Ed Ray told the City Commission that is a Tax Incentive Fund, or TIF, is approved, the project will generate $158M in tax revenues within 20 years. The City Commission is scheduled to hold second reading and a vote on the TIF ordinance at its June 16 meeting.
