It’s the week of welcoming the former Shreveport Mavericks of the Premiere Basketball League as Owensboro’s newest sports attraction. This week the club is taking over the old Executive Racquet Club which will serve as training and practice center, ticket office, home office and merchandise store. The 4-time and current defending League Champion has a 93-game home win streak, the longest in professional sports, and team officials are eager to bring more than a title to the Big O. The NBA has mandated that every team must have a Developmental League team, and the Mavericks aspire to become one of the 20 new NBA D-League teams. Games at the Sportscenter tip off in January; ribbon-cutting downtown this Friday.
