As the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season comes to a close, the game of musical chairs continues as the 2025 season gets closer every day.
One of the drivers seemingly without a seat is Ryan Preece. Preece is the last driver from Stewart-Haas Racing who has not announced their plans for the 2025 season, after the SHR closure was announced earlier this season.
Preece’s goal for his final ten races at the #41 team remain attainable.
“Being competitive and staying competitive is the main thing. We want to run top-15, top-10, top-five, maybe even sneak in a win before all is said and done. But bottom line, no matter how it happens, it would be great to send it out on a good note.”
Preece currently sits 28th in driver’s standings heading into the first race of the post-season at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.
Sunday’s Quaker State 400 will mark Ryan Preece’s eighth NASCAR Cup Series start at the Hampton, GA track. Preece’s best finish was 16th in February.
Preece admits he expects a different track this weekend from the Spring event.
“With it being in the South and as hot as it is this time of year, I think it’s going to change a lot. It would help if it was a night race, which would make things a lot cooler and would give us a little more grip. But it is what it is, and it’s the same for everybody.,” said Preece.
With the recent reconfiguration at Atlanta, it joins Daytona and Talladega as the series’ restrictor plate events. Preece feels you can make a little of your own luck at Atlanta, as compared to the other two.
“I feel like at Atlanta you can control your destiny a little more. Yeah, you’re going to have to have track position, but if you have a really good-handling racecar at Atlanta, you’re going to have a good day. At Daytona and Talladega, sometimes it’s just luck of the draw.”
