A statue and monument honoring Indiana’s longest-serving U.S. Senator has been unveiled in Indianapolis. The late Richard Lugar served 36 years in the U.S. Senate and was mayor of Indianapolis from 1968 to 1976. He died shortly after his 87th birthday in 2019 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The statue and monument are located in Lugar Plaza outside the Indianapolis City-County Building.
