(Indianapolis, IN)- It was a remarkable day for Scott Dixon in Indianapolis on Saturday.
The New Zealand extended his streak of winning seasons to 19, on his series-record 319th consecutive start.
The victory didn’t come easy for Dixon, who was involved in a lap one incident that caused the veteran to spin through the grass.
“What a day to win on,” said Dixon as he held his 3-year-old son, Kit. “It makes it so fun, especially for this little guy. He gets to see it. It’s been a little while since I’ve had a win, probably over a year. It makes it worthwhile, and we’re going to keep trying to win on (start) No. 320.”
The NTT P1 Pole Winner finished a season-best 2nd at the conclusion of the 85-lap race. Rahal surmounted a race-ending charge to the front, but would come up .4779 seconds short of the win. The finish was the closest in history on the IMS Road Course.
Pato O’Ward finished in the 3rd position followed by Christian Lundgaard in 4th and Alexander Rossi rounded out the top 5.
Championship leader Alex Palou finished in 7th and extended his points lead to 101 over the new 2nd place points driver, Scott Dixon. Dixon leapfrogged Josef Newgarden for 2nd in points after Newgarden was involved in the lap 1 melee and finished in the 25th position.
The next NTT Indycar Series will be on Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at the World Wide Technology Speedway.
