Indiana’s near-total abortion ban is being upheld by the state’s Supreme Court. The court ruled the state’s General Assembly is able to determine the extent to which to prohibit abortions. Abortion will now be banned in the state with limited exceptions starting as early as August 1st pending the outcome of a second separate lawsuit. The second lawsuit challenges the ban on religious freedom grounds. Indiana was the first state to pass an abortion ban following the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade last year.
