The windstorm that hit Kentucky earlier this year has been declared a billion-dollar disaster. That’s according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who have classified the weather event as the fourth to cost the commonwealth a billion dollars in just over two years. Winds almost reached 80 miles per hour in parts of Kentucky on March 3rd, killing four people. The other three recent billion-dollar weather events in Kentucky were the ice storms in February 2021, the tornado outbreak in December 2021 and last year’s flooding in eastern Kentucky.
