According to National Weather Service (Paducah), White Flag criteria (15ºF or lower air temperature and/or wind chill) will be met tonight (December 22, 2022) through at least Monday night (December 26, 2022).
Key Points:
- These winter weather hazards (wind chills, extreme wind gusts, blowing snow) may pose serious threats to human life. Dangerous wind chills will occur over the next few days and nights. Frostbite could occur in under 30 minutes. Those without heat should seek immediate alternate shelter.
- Rural Daviess County residents who require “emergency” sheltering this evening should call Daviess County Fire Dept. at 270-683-7067 or 270-685-8431, as some volunteer fire stations may be open for sheltering. This is to prevent longer driving distances (i.e. more chances for accidents) to the White Flag shelter in city limits. This option should only be used for emergency situations.
A White Flag event signals the opening of an overnight emergency shelter that will be open to all men, women, and children.
- Hours of Operation: 6:00 P.M. – 7:00 A.M, unless beds are available at another shelter. Daytime sheltering will also be available at Daniel Pitino Shelter.
