The United Way is opening the application process for non-profit food providers to apply for funding for cold storage (freezer and refrigeration units.)
United Way is continuing to help our local communities to increase ability to give out more healthy and nutritious food by improving and implementing freezer and refrigeration storage space with frontline not for profit organizations. United Way has additional funds available to assist non-profits to ensure no person goes hungry and to help close the “Meal Gap” in our communities. To do this they need to increase the amount of food into the system and have the ability to store items such as meat, fresh fruits and vegetables and dairy products.
These additional funds in the amount of $18,000 will assist more agencies in increasing cold storage access to address our community hunger issues. Non-Profits, who are 501c3, can apply for a grant request in the amount of $2,000 to United Way. The grant applications will be accepted beginning September 6, 2022 through September 20, 2022. If a non-profit has already received United Way funds for Cold Storage in the past you will NOT be able to apply again at this time.
Organizations that are encouraged to apply are:
– Churches and religious organizations operating food pantries and soup kitchens as part of their mission.
– Homeless Shelters and other shelter types that are feeding individuals.
– Soup Kitchens operating on a regular basis.
– Food serving organizations whose primary purpose is feeding the less fortunate and those who don’t know from where their next meal is coming.
