An update has been issued in a case from June where a man died from a gunshot after being discovered in a traffic crash. On June 13th at 11:08pm, the Owensboro Police Department responded to the 1200 Block of West 7th Street for a possible vehicle collision with injuries where a building had been struck. When officers arrived, a bystander was performing CPR on an adult male who had been driving the vehicle. As officers began assisting with medical care, they discovered a single gunshot wound on the driver. The victim was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital via ambulance where he later died from his injuries.
*UPDATE** – This case was presented to the Daviess County Grand Jury on August 3, 2022 after a lengthy investigation by Owensboro Police Department Detectives. During the investigation, Detectives traveled to and coordinated with agencies in Kentucky, Illinois and Alabama in an effort to identify the suspects. Based upon the evidence gathered during the investigation, the Daviess County Grand Jury indicted Derrick Carroll (29 years old of Owensboro) and Damian M. Fields (27 years old of Owensboro) in this case. Damian M. Fields is currently in custody at the Daviess County Detention Center for other offenses. Derrick Carroll is currently in custody in Alabama for other offenses and state extradition is being pursued.
