One of only 10 known Holocaust survivors known to be living in the Commonwealth will visit Owensboro Thursday to speak to students and others. Fred Gross’s book “One Step Ahead of Hitler: A Jewish Child’s Journey Through France,” describes his family’s attempt to flee the Nazis when they invaded his home country of Belgium in 1940. Mr. Gross will be speaking to eighth-graders at Daviess County and Owensboro middle schools during the day and then talking at the Daviess County Public Library from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
