Owensboro, Ky. (June 1, 2021) – The Owensboro High School Site-Based Decision-Making Council has named Jennifer Luttrell the school’s next principal. Luttrell will officially move into the new role effective July 1, 2021, taking over for current principal John DeLacey who has accepted a position as the Director of Transportation, Health and Safety at the district level.
“I am honored to serve as the next principal of Owensboro High School,” said Luttrell “OHS has such a rich tradition that I am now proud to be a part of and I look forward to working with Mrs. Howard in this innovative co-leadership model. I think it will really be beneficial to all students in enriching their education experience and helping them excel in all areas.”
Luttrell is coming to Owensboro Public Schools after spending the past 18 years at Hopkins County Public Schools. She began her career as a special education teacher at Hanson Elementary School for three years and then moved to a districtwide Preschool Resource position for two years. From there, Luttrell became the Director of Special Education and Early Childhood for four years before transitioning to the Director of Elementary Instruction and Early Childhood where she has been for the past seven years.
Luttrell received her Bachelor of Science degree in Learning and Behavior Disorders from Murray State University. She also holds dual Masters degrees in Interdisciplinary Early Childhood Education and School Administration from Murray State.
In this co-leadership model first introduced in OPS at Owensboro Middle School, Luttrell will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Owensboro High School and Ms. Tara Howard, the Dean of Instruction, will oversee the curriculum and academic side of the school. In addition to operational duties, Luttrell will be responsible for planning, implementing and supervising the school’s extracurricular programs, budget and evaluation of school staff.
“I don’t know who is more fired up, Ms. Luttrell or the Site-Based Council,” said Dr. Constant. “We are thrilled she will be the next principal to carry on the tradition and excellence of Owensboro High School. Not only is she familiar with our district, being an Owensboro resident, but she also brings a wealth of experience in a variety of areas in education and will put that experience to work combined with the expertise of Ms. Howard to really move Owensboro High School into the future.”
