Cardi B dropped a new single, “Up,” on Friday (February 5th), and shortly after the song arrived, she was accused of stealing the hook from another rapper.
New Jersey rapper Mir Fontane hopped on Twitter last week and seemingly called out Cardi for copying the hook of the song he dropped in September of last year, “Stuck.” Fontane tweeted a split video of his song and Cardi's, comparing the two. Fontane doesn’t accuse Cardi outright, but he uses repetition on his hook just like Cardi does. They both also rap, “If it's up then it's stuck.” So, it can be presumed that Fontane sees a likeness in Cardi's hook.
Mir Pesos, who is on the song with Mir Fontane, called out Cardi via Twitter last week also. He wrote, “🗣 @iamcardib we want my money @MirFontane.”
Cardi defended herself online and posted a video of a livestream she did with Megan Thee Stallion when they released “WAP” last August. At the end of the clip, Cardi says, “Up and it's stuck. Up and it's stuck. Up and it's stuck. B*tch, it's up and it's stuck.” She captioned the tweet, “AUGUST 7th now go check buddy’s date .”
Mir Fontane responded to Cardi saying that he first teased “Stuck” on Aug. 6, 2020, which is a day before “WAP” came out. He said, “We previewed 'STUCK' on August 6th at the end of this video and recorded it even earlier than that, Respectfully.”
Cardi later revealed to a fan that she had never heard of Mir Fontane’s song. She also did a YouTube Live Q&A prior to “Up” dropping and said she got the phrase used on the hook of her song from her husband, Offset.
Numerous variations of the phrase “up and it’s stuck” have been used by countless rappers including Lil Baby and Lil Yachty.

CARDI B SAYS SHE HAS RECORDED 50 NEW SONGS
In other news, Cardi also did an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe for New Music Daily and revealed that she has recorded 50 new songs.
She explained, “I really wanted to put out an album last year, but it was like, ‘I feel like I don’t have the right songs.’ I have recorded so many songs. I think I’ve got like 50 songs recorded, and I’m just still not satisfied. If I’m not satisfied, I’m just not satisfied, but I really want to put out an album this year. I feel like I have no choice now. Now, I feel like I exceeded my limit of holding. I just need to stop with the fear.”
Cardi later added that she needs “like, eight more songs.”
