Eddie Money was born Edward Mahoney in New York.
The son of a New York policeman, Money attended the NYPD police academy and worked there as a clerk. He adopted his stage name while moonlighting with a band on Long Island.
During the mid-'70s, Money quit the police force and moved to Berkeley, California, where he began singing on the bar circuit and was signed to a management contract by concert promoter Bill Graham.
The second single from Money's self-titled debut album, “Two Tickets To Paradise” peaked at Number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1978.
Eddie Money hit Number 37 on the Billboard 200, and with sales of more than two million copies, it's his most successful album.
“Two Tickets To Paradise” has been Money's regular show-opener throughout his career.
Before the first album's success made Money a headliner, he spent 1978 opening for high-profile tours by bands such as the Rolling Stones, Ted Nugent, and Cheap Trick.
