Our Ohio County High School senior baseball spotlights are brought to you by Canty Dairy Queen on Highway 231 in Owensboro for the summer blizzard selections as well at the home of the $6 dollar Canty Dairy Queen Meal Deal. Beaver Dam location will be opening soon!
Today we’ll be talking with Ohio County baseball coach Ben Everley about each of the eight graduating seniors at Ohio County High School.
Coach Everley on Kolton Lambert: Kolton would’ve been a returning two year starter. He was going to play short stop and maybe slide over to second base, depending on who was pitching. He’d be batting in the middle of our lineup, and have a role on our pitching staff. In the fall, he’ll be attending Murray State University and studying animal science.
Coach Everley on Jordan Tolle: Jordan came back with a couple years experience, and would’ve been a fixture at third base for us this year. Like many of our other seniors, he would’ve had opportunities on the mound, and definitely been apart of our pitching staff. He would’ve been our three or four hole hitter in our lineup. This fall, he’ll be attending Oakland City University, where he’ll not only continue his academics, but his baseball career as well and I wish him the best of luck!
Coach Everley on Derik Hall: He’s a young man that I’ve coached since he was 7 years old., and he’s taken a different route to get to his senior year. He actually didn’t play baseball at all through middle or high school. However, he came out his for his senior year and showed that he still had the skill set from when he was younger. He had the desire to play and was looking forward to being apart of the this team. He worked extremely hard this off season. It was going to be a fun year getting Derik back with the group and would’ve been a fun year.
Coach Everley on Wade Everley: Wade’s my son, and I’ve coached him from day one. Unless you’ve been through it, it’s hard to understand what it’s like to be a coaches kid. My hats’ off to him for being able to deal with that. A lot of times, things come your way and people think, “Did he earn that?”, but I’ve always tried to be fair and make sure he earns everything he gets. He was coming back with two years varsity experience as a catcher. He was going to be our captain on the field, and as a father and coach, I was expecting big things from him this season. He’s going to go on and continue his academics and play ball at Asbury University.
Coach Everley on Ty Lambert: Obviously he and Kolton are twins and come from a great family. They moved over in middle school, and I felt we were very fortunate to get them. With Ty, he would’ve spend most of his time at second base, and also been a member of our pitching staff. Ty lead the team in batting last year, and would’ve been in the middle to top of the lineup for sure. This fall, he’ll be working for the family business and taking classes at OCTC. I know he’ll do well, and I wish him all the best.
Coach Everley on Tanner Batts: He’s my nephew, so like my son, I stay on him pretty well. He’s played through it, and hopefully is a better young man because of it. He would’ve been our number one pitcher this year, and he was coming back with two years varsity pitching experience. He would’ve also been our leader in the outfield, playing center field. Tanner may have been our lead off hitter, definitely in the top of the lineup. He’s made all district and all region teams a few times the past few years. Tanner was definitely a gamer and brings experience with him to the table. This fall, he’ll be playing junior college baseball at Southeastern Illinois.
Coach Everley on Alex Reyes: Alex would’ve played first base primarily for us. It looked like he would be our number two pitcher this season, and he worked very hard to develop his breaking ball this off season. His ability to keep hitters off balance has obvious in our only scrimmage we had. He would’ve been our 3 or 4 hitter, and he’s the guy that can step up to the plate and take it deep anytime. As long as we were close in the game, and it was near his spot in the batting order, we knew we had a chance. Although Alex had some college interest, he’s decided to enter the workforce and hopefully get into construction.
Coach Everley on Bryson Baker: Bryson is a kid that transferred to us from Apollo as a freshman, and is an excellent young man. He played football at Ohio County up until he had a shoulder injury, and didn’t play his senior football season. I hate that for him that he lost his senior football season as well. He would’ve been playing a lot of left and right field this year, and he would’ve brought a big stick to the plate. He worked hard through rehabbing his shoulder, and Bryson will be a very successful young man with a bright future.
Again, big thanks to Canty Dairy Queen in Beaver Dam and Highway 231 in Owensboro for making it possible for us to highlight the Ohio County baseball seniors. Best of luck to all the graduates of Ohio County High School class of 2020!
