Today marks the 20th anniversary of the F-3 tornado that struck Owensboro. The tornado destroyed 280 homes, nine thousand were left without power, thousands were left without shelter prompting the city to make the Owensboro Sportscenter an emergency shelter by the Red Cross. Wind speeds were in excess of 180 miles an hour. Miraculously, only one person was injured.
