Owensboro will be celebrating community, competition, and inclusion next weekend with a special basketball tournament benefiting a great local organization.
Puzzle Pieces will host the Ballin’ in the Boro Basketball Tournament on March 14–15, 2026, as part of Disability Awareness Month. The two-day event brings teams and families together while raising support for the important work Puzzle Pieces does in the community.
According to Puzzle Pieces administration facilitator Tabatha, the event is about much more than just basketball.
“This two-day event is more than just a basketball tournament. It’s a celebration of inclusion, competition, and community spirit.”
The tournament will take place across four locations, all operating on the same schedule throughout the weekend.
In addition to the games, the event will rely on community volunteers to help keep things running smoothly. Organizers say it’s a great opportunity for middle and high school students looking for volunteer hours, as well as anyone who wants to help support a meaningful cause.
Volunteer Opportunities Available
Puzzle Pieces is currently looking for volunteers to help with several areas throughout the tournament.
Concession Stand Volunteers will:
-
Handle money transactions for concession purchases
-
Sell items like popcorn, candy, drinks, Little Caesars pizza by the slice, Rolling Pin donuts, hot dogs, and nachos
-
Assist with light cleanup during slower times
Gate Volunteers will:
-
Collect payment for day passes or weekend passes
-
Provide wristbands to attendees
-
Welcome guests as they enter the event
Organizers are hoping to have 2–3 volunteers per concession shift and 2 volunteers per shift at the gate.
Some volunteer shifts are still urgently needed as the event approaches.
If you or a student in your family is looking for a way to give back while being part of a fun community event, this could be a great opportunity.
The Ballin’ in the Boro Tournament promises to be a weekend filled with basketball, community spirit, and support for an organization making a difference in the lives of individuals with disabilities.
More information about volunteering or getting involved with the event can be obtained through Puzzle Pieces.
