DC SHERIFF
Shortly after Midnight (12:06 am) on August 18, Owensboro – Daviess County Central Dispatch received call of a pedestrian
walking in the roadway in the 8400 Block of US Highway 431 near the intersection of Burns Road in the Browns Valley area. Daviess County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) 3rd Platoon patrol deputies were dispatched to investigate and while enroute additional 911 calls were received (12:08 and 12:10 am) reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in the same area.
Upon arrival, DCSO deputies and firefighters with the Daviess County Fire Department and Utica Fire Department located a deceased male subject lying off the roadway. McLean County EMS provided the ambulance response under a mutual aid agreement due to the ongoing Petit bridge construction project. Witnesses to the accident who had called 911 attempted life saving measures until emergency crews arrived. The vehicle that struck the subject sustained moderate damage and none of the passengers nor driver were injured. The DCSO Accident Reconstruction Unit and Daviess County Coroner’s Office responded to further the investigation.
It is unknown why the subject was walking in the roadway. This area of Highway 431 is unlit and at that time of night and it was very dark when this event occurred. Deputies have determined that alcohol and controlled substances were not
contributing factors. This is an ongoing investigation.
