(Owensboro, KY): Windy Hollow Speedway made history on Sunday, August 10th. For the first time in its 55-year history, the track hosted free general admission night.
The free general admission event yielded over 1100 fans in the grandstands with standing room only as the night progressed.
The event was sponsored by R.A. Alexander Excavating. The family-owned company began in 1947 in the small community of Newman, KY. Today, the Ballard family continues the legacy.
As part of the event, Mr. George Ballard led the National Anthem on the track in the original 1947 John Deere that was purchased by the company when they started.
R.A. Alexander also sponsored the winning purse for the Open Wheel Modifieds for their first visit to the track in 2025. The winner’s purse was $1947, a nod to the company’s founding year.
A total of 14 open wheel modified cars entered the event. As a result, the cars were divided into Group A and Group B for their qualifying session. Cole Falloway led Group A with a lap of 15.751 seconds around the 3/8-mile oval. Paducah’s Peyton Walker would lead Group B with a lap of 16.192. Both Falloway and Walker earned a $500 qualifying bonus from 431 Elite Storage.
The cars would be divided into two heat races to determine the starting line up for the 19-lap feature. Cole Falloway took home Heat A with Ryan Williams from Clifty, KY taking home the win in Heat B. Falloway took home a $100 heat race win bonus from High Octane Wraps and Apparel. Williams earned the $100 bonus from A Special Event Rental and Limousine Service.
Falloway would lead the field to green and lead the first handful of laps, before a broken shock ended the Owensboro driver’s night. Crofton’s Trent Young would take the 10Y machine to victory lane and presented a $1947 check from the Ballard family on the front stretch.
“We can’t thank the Ballard family enough for all they’ve done. Not only sponsoring free general admission night, but all the excavating and dirt work they have done this season. The track started off rough early in the season, it wouldn’t be where it is now without George, Mark and Bailey (Ballard),” said track promoter, Trevor Hutchins.
