Daviess County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to an overnight mental health emergency July 9th after receiving a call about a man threatening self-harm while intoxicated. When deputies arrived, the individual made further threats toward law enforcement. To safely resolve the situation, a deputy utilized the BolaWrap device—a tool designed to restrain without causing pain. The device worked as intended, allowing deputies to handcuff the man without injuries. He was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital for a mental health evaluation. This marks the first field use of BolaWrap by the department, highlighting its recent adoption as a non-lethal intervention tool.
