A man is dead following a shooting Thursday night in Brown’s Valley in Daviess County. Deputies responded to the 100 block of Saint Anthony Road around 8 PM and found 38-year-old Anthony Scott Smalls suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency crews attempted lifesaving measures, but Smalls died at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Authorities say Smalls was shot as the homeowner opened the door, with no apparent altercation beforehand. Detectives have arrested 57-year-old Darrin Ray Carter, charging him with manslaughter, possessing a handgun as a felon, and tampering with evidence. A small amount of methamphetamine was located in the residence.
