We had the pleasure of sitting down with Haley Neal from Wendell Foster inside the AMVETS Post 75 Studio for our Volunteer Owensboro segment—and it’s clear: this organization is doing incredible work, and they need the community to step in and help.
Wendell Foster provides over 60,000 services each year to individuals with disabilities—everything from residential care to therapy to community outings. Haley, who’s been with the organization for just over a year, shared how volunteers are a key part of that mission, whether it’s working with groups or one-on-one.
One amazing program is the Community Companion initiative, where you’re matched with someone at Wendell Foster just to hang out—grab coffee, go for a walk, enjoy conversation. They also host crafts with kids groups, help with recreational events, and even need support during major fundraisers like their Half Marathon and Golf Scramble.
Coming up on July 17th from 10:30 AM to 1 PM, they’re inviting all first responders to join them for their First Responders BBQ—a day filled with free lunch, games, and good times with residents. It’s a great chance to see the impact of this organization up close. If you’ve ever thought about giving your time, now’s the moment. Wendell Foster has a place for you—whether you want to volunteer once or stay involved long-term.
