I recently sat down in the Cromwell Media AMVETS Post 9 Studio for a conversation that truly moved me—an interview with the women behind Fresh Start for Women in Owensboro.
This was part of Volunteer Owensboro’s mission to give local nonprofits a platform to share their work and connect with the community. It’s about shining a light on the people and programs that are quietly, but powerfully, changing lives in our city.
Fresh Start for Women is one of those programs.
They provide transitional housing for women—often coming out of addiction recovery or facing difficult circumstances—and offer far more than a place to stay. They provide structure, stability, and support through budgeting classes, parenting guidance, counseling, and faith-based programming like Bible studies. It’s a safe space for transformation and rebuilding.
What struck me most during the interview was their commitment to both accountability and compassion. Cindy Jean, one of the leaders at Fresh Start, said it best: “We’re not here to judge your past—we’re here to walk with you into your future.” That simple truth carries the heart of what Fresh Start stands for.
You can hear the full conversation in the interview linked below. I hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen and learn more about how Fresh Start is helping women in our community reclaim their lives—and how you can be part of that journey.
