In Hawesville, a police pursuit culminated in an officer-involved shooting after a man allegedly brandished a handgun at law enforcement. The incident began when Lewisport Police attempted to serve an arrest warrant to 60-year-old Carl P. Newhard, who then fled. Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies successfully halted his vehicle using a tire deflation device. During the confrontation, Newhard reportedly displayed a firearm, prompting a deputy to respond with gunfire, injuring Newhard. He was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the events that led to the shooting.
