Owensboro, KY (October 28, 2024): Windy Hollow Speedway closed their season with two days of racing action over the weekend.
The weekend kicked off on October 25th with the 1st Annual Pumpkin Smash Bash Demolition Derby Contest presented by Visit Owensboro. Competitors and fans traveled for hours to Owensboro to take part in the first ever strictly demolition derby competition to be held at the Speedway. Spectators were also treated to an appearance from the Shrek character, trunk or treating and pumpkin painting. Before the demolition derbies, kids were also chosen from the crowd to take part in the power wheel demolition derby with the power wheels furnished by Shake and Bake Promotions.
“Since becoming promoters Misty (Westerfield) and I have wanted to bring never seen events to Windy Hollow Speedway. Thanks to the great folks at Visit Owensboro, we were able to do that with the demolition derby. We saw some familiar faces from our weekly racing schedule, but we also saw a lot of new faces to the track. It was a great time,” said track promoter, Trevor Hutchins.
As soon as the track was clear of demolition derby cars, track crews disassembled the demolition derby track and began preparing for Saturday’s Enduro Day event. It was a quick turn-around for Speedway crews with the events of Friday ending after 10pm and the gates opening on Saturday for Enduro Day at 10am.
Saturday’s events included enduro races for mini stock, bombers, and bone stock. The event also included Powder Puff, a Mechanics Race and Run What Ya Brung Figure 8. The Windy Hollow Speedway Kids Club also hosted games and a costume contest for the younger fans.

“We can’t thank everyone enough for the support shown in 2024. Whether you’re a competitor or a fan, we can’t do this without you. Thank you to our sponsors, as well. We did some different things in 2024 including a flat track motorcycle race, demolition derby, figure-8 race, some Saturday events and hosted some series events as well. We look forward to continuing to bring family entertainment to Owensboro and Windy Hollow in 2025,” said track promoter, Trevor Hutchins.
