Owensboro is known as a mecca of motorsports with it’s rich history ranging from NASCAR drivers, hyroplane racers, race broadcasters, world champion motorcycle racers and much more.
This weekend, Owensboro will be filled with motorsports enthusiasts from all over the nation for the Bluegrass Legends Experience presented by the Moore Automotive Team.
The Bluegrass Legends car show was a fixture for years at Diamond Lake in western Daviess County. In 2022, the organizers felt that the event had ran its course and announced that the event would not return in 2023.
With that announcement, came Jimmy Rhoades and wife, Janie to continue the tradition while growing the event and making it a nationwide destination event, and benefitting St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
“It was a pipe dream and a prayer,” said Rhoades.
Rhoades approached the city of Owensboro and organized a team that brought the event to Moreland Park and the Owensboro Sportscenter in 2023.
Event organizers worked tirelessly for ten months approcacing marketing partners, vendors, and car show clubs to make the event a reality.
The event was a huge success with over 650 cars scattered througjout Moreland Park in 2023, and over 9,500 visitors on the Saturday portion of the three-day event.
The Bluegrass Legends Experience is back this weekend and is packed with live entertainment, food trucks, vendors, and a traveling Evel Knievel exhibit that will include legendary vehicles and memorabilia from the iconic stuntman. The event will also include a pro-build motorcycle exhibit, as well as a classic bicycle show.
On Saturday night, the experience will also include a night of racing at Windy Hollow Dragway that will include specialized classes for Bluegrass Legends Experience participants.
The event will wrap up on Sunday afternoon with over 200 awards being presented inside of the Owensboro Sportscenter.
The event is free to attend, but Rhoades and the team will have donation drop spots set up throughout the event for St. Jude’s.
