The U.S. Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the treatment of youths at Kentucky detention facilities. The investigation announced today will focus on whether excessive force and isolation are used to punish young offenders. It will also examine whether there is adequate protection from violence and sexual abuse. There are also questions regarding whether proper mental health care and education are being provided. The U.S. Attorneys in Lexington and Louisville will work with the Civil Rights Division to sort out the answers.
