A former Owensboro police officer faces serious charges following an indictment by the Daviess County Grand Jury on Tuesday. 35-year-old Aleph G. Zavala has been charged with sodomy, strangulation, and sexual abuse, all in the first degree. This indictment stems from a Kentucky State Police investigation initiated on December 9th, after allegations surfaced of sexual misconduct by an on-duty officer. The investigation began following a burglary alarm response at U-Haul Storage, where a homeless woman, staying with permission, reported being sexually assaulted by Zavala after the initial police response. Zavala is currently held at the Daviess County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
