(Avondale, AZ) Behind the wheel of the #99 Thorsport Racing entry, Louisville native Ben Rhodes claimed his 2nd NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Championship on Friday night at Phoenix Raceway.
In a race marred by multiple yellow flags, Rhodes finished the race in 5th ahead of the other Championship 4 contenders- Corey Heim, Carson Hocevar and Grant Enfinger.
With Friday night’s championship, the 2023 trophy makes the 5th NASCAR Truck Series Championship in 10-years for the Ohio based, Thorsport Racing.
Rhodes’ 2023 Championship also puts the driver in elite company, as one of the only 5 drivers to win multiple truck series championships including teammate, Matt Crafton along with Ron Hornaday Jr, Jack Sprague and Todd Bodine.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet. Give me a couple days, mamma jamma. We’re going to figure it out. But right now I’ve got my champagne gogglies. I’ve got my hat and my chain, and we’re just having a grand old time. We’re going to go up to the barn here soon, and I’m going to see all kinds of race fans,” said Rhodes during a comical post-race press conference in Phoenix.
Christian Eckes won the event, capturing his 4th race of the season followed by Jake Garcia, Chase Purdy in 3rd and Jesse Love in 4th.
