**UPDATE**
Detectives continued their investigation into the firearm located during the execution of the search warrant. Detectives’ investigation determined that a family member identified as Troy Gunter (54 years old of Owensboro) purchased the firearm at
the gun show after passing the background check.
While conducting negotiations on September 25, 2023, Gunter told officers that he was not aware of Givens possessing any firearms; the investigation revealed that Gunter purchased the firearm for Givens. It was also determined that Gunter was aware that
Givens had been denied access to purchase the firearm due to his background check.
Detectives consulted with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and an arrest warrant
was obtained for Gunter.
Gunter was arrested on his warrant by the Owensboro Police Department and
transported to the Daviess County Detention Center on the following charges:

The Owensboro Police Department has released information about the arrest of a barricaded suspect. On Monday, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division opened an investigation on an adult male subject in reference to a Fraudulent Firearm Transaction.
Vendors with a local gun show conducted a background check on the subject attempting to purchase a firearm. The subject was denied the purchase of the firearm when he failed to meet the background qualifications and criteria to legally purchase a firearm, which prompted the investigation.
Detectives attempted to make contact with the subject but were unsuccessful and an arrest warrant was obtained.
On Wednesday, at approximately 9:46am, officers served a warrant in the 4100 Block of Ryeland Point. Officers made contact and attempted to serve the arrest warrant on the subject at which point he barricaded himself inside the residence.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, the Emergency Response Team, and the Hostage Negotiation Unit responded to the scene and obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the negotiations, the subject made statements that he would not be taken alive and presented a firearm.
The Emergency Response Team began the implementation of Armed Barricaded Subject Procedures and executed the search warrant.
Hostage Negotiators and The Emergency Response Team were able to make contact with the subject and coordinate a peaceful surrender.
The scene was secured and a search of the residence resulted in the recovery of a firearm.
The adult male subject has been identified as Grant Givens (32 years old of Owensboro).
