(Portland, Or)- Alex Palou was the car to beat on Sunday in the Bitnile.com Grand Prix of Portland for the NTT Indy Car Series.
Palou went to victory lane and also clinched his 2nd NTT INDYCAR Series Championship. Palou was the first driver to capture the championship in the penultimate event since since Sebastian Bourdais did it in 2007.
“That’s what we wanted,” Palou said. “It was an amazing weekend overall. We had really fast cars. We knew we had to go for it, and we just raced how we’ve been doing all season. Super proud to be here in victory lane and super proud of the second championship.
“I never thought that I would be an INDYCAR champion, and to be a two-time INDYCAR champion feels amazing, like a dream.”
The Championship marks the 15th for Chip Ganassi Racing and the first time since 2009 that Ganassi clinched 1st and 2nd in the standings with Scott Dixon clinching 2nd.
Felix Rosenqvist finished 2nd in the race followed by Scott Dixon.
The NTT INDYCAR Series heads to Weathertech Raceway at Laguna Seca for the final event of the season on Sunday, September 10th.
