Belton Kentucky’s Charlie Mefford is well known for his racing accomplishments in the go-cart and open wheel modified world. The racing phenom has been behind the wheel since the age of 6 when he got behind the wheel of a g0-cart.
The 16-year old driver gained national recognition over the winter with his driving and off-track antics in St. Louis at the indoor dome races. The popularity of “Chargin’ Charlie” Mefford went wild and even sold out of his t-shirts at the event and online.
In addition to driving duties, Mefford has assisted over the last few seasons with trackside winner interviews at Windy Hollow Speedway in Owensboro.
“Jake Shown, he’s the one that really got my attention for the art (of announcing). Ben Shelton, Dustin Jarret, and Mike Norris have all been amazing contributors to picking up the mic as well,” said Mefford.
Mefford will take over the reigns as full-time track public address announcer beginning Sunday, August 6th at Windy Hollow Speedway and will finish out the duties for the 2023 season.
“I’ve always wanted to announce, it’s been a hidden talent. I’d really like to ride the wave for as long as I can, especially at Windy.”
“It’s a true honor as it’s one of my favorite race tracks of all time and to fill the seat is something that will forever be on my resume,” added Mefford.
Mefford will fill the position vacated by veteran announcer, Billy Egeler at the end of June.
