The Grimes Avenue Transfer Station will receive a major upgrade with a $2 million investment from Daviess County Fiscal Court. Since 1994, the Transfer Station has been the primary destination for solid waste in the City of Owensboro. Annual tonnage has more than doubled since the facility opened, nearly 30 years ago. Fiscal Court selected HDR to develop a master plan with an outline of recommended improvements. The first phase calls for a new elevated Convenience Center designed to accept small loads of solid waste. The new layout is designed to improve the traffic flow and safety at the site. Other planned improvements at the Transfer Station include a new tipping floor and replacement of the inbound scales. All work will occur in the upcoming Fiscal Year. Starting July 3, 2023, the Transfer Station will not accept construction and demolition debris (CD&D) loads larger than a pickup truck. All CD&D waste in trailers, dump trucks, and roll-offs should go to the Daviess County Landfill at 7772 KY-815 near the community of West Louisville.
