Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says Congress should “stay out of” ethics issues relating to the Supreme Court. The Kentucky Republican told reporters that should be up to Chief Justice Roberts as the Supreme Court “can’t be dictated to by Congress.” His comments come as Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee plan to mark up Supreme Court ethics reform legislation in early July. That’s in response to recent news reports justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas allegedly accepted expensive gifts and trips from wealthy Republican donors without disclosing them.
