State unemployment data shows that the jobless rate rose in 96 counties between May 2022 and May 2023. Unemployment dropped in 22 counties over that same year while in Breckinridge and Green counties the rate remained the same. Carroll County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 2.8-percent followed by Spencer and Woodford counties at three-percent each. The highest unemployment rate over the last year was found in Magoffin County at 8.9-percent followed by Elliott and Martin counties at nearly eight-percent.
