Jelly Roll can count many famous people among his fans, but his biggest supporter just might be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The two connected several years ago, and as Jelly Roll tells us, they've been fast friends ever since. “Dwayne Johnson reached out to me probably I'm gonna say in 2016 or 17. He just said, 'Hey, I want you to know I love the music. This song really helped me through a tough time in my life,' and from then til now every major or minor thing that's happened in my life, Dwayne Johnson has been the first person to send me a message, and he's just been a quiet champion for me that shows his support in every way he always can, but when he posted the album it blew my mind. We just sent each other a message two, three days before that (and) he didn't even mention it, so that's just who he is as a person.”
Jelly Roll is referring to Dwayne's lengthy tweet about his major label debut album, Whitsitt Chapel, which was released earlier this month. Dwayne tweeted in part, “My guy is blowing up the industry and moving the crowds. He's a real authentic artist who brings PASSION & MANA to his music – and he brings a joy and gratitude that can only come from experience and living the life . . . “
Jelly Roll was a surprise performer on the main stage at Nissan Stadium during CMA Fest for the first time on Friday (June 9th).
He hovers just outside the Top 10 on the Mediabase chart with “Need A Favor.”
