A federal indictment has been handed down on a man charged with numerous offenses in January. On January 20th around 11:46am, OPD responded to the 4500 Block of Frederica Street in reference to a Disturbance complaint. Officers on scene observed a male subject involved in the disturbance with several warrants. Officers went to detain the male subject when he attempted to flee from officers. Officers apprehended the male subject and recovered a loaded handgun, suspected methamphetamine, and multiple items of drug paraphernalia possessed by the male subject. 35-year-old Montae Goodnight was arrested and charged with:
– Possession of Handgun by Convicted Felon
– Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Methamphetamine) (Enhancement)
– Resisting Arrest
– Possession of Marijuana
– Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
– Outstanding Warrants.
Prior to this arrest, Detectives with the Owensboro Police Department Street Crimes Unit (SCU) had initiated an investigation of Goodnight after he was identified as a significant and repeat trafficker of controlled substances in our community. Based upon the investigation, SCU Detectives charged Goodnight with the following:
– Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 2nd or Greater Offense (Greater or Equal to 2 Grams Methamphetamine)
Owensboro Police Department Detectives assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) task force presented their investigation to the United States Attorney’s Office. On Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The United States District Court, Western District of Kentucky, federally indicted Goodnight on the following charges stemming from this incident:
– Distribution of Methamphetamine
– Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine
– Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person
– Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of Drug Trafficking
Goodnight has previously been charged with the following:

– Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 1st Offense (Less than 4 Grams Cocaine) (2 Counts)
– Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 2nd Degree, 1st Offense (Less than 10 Dosage Units Amphetamine)
– Probation Violation (For Felony Offense) (4 Counts)
– Probation Violation
– Receiving Stolen Property (Firearm)
– Burglary 3rd Degree
– Criminal Trespassing 2nd Degree
– Theft of Motor Vehicle Registration Plate
