The Owensboro Soap Box Derby held their Super Kids Classic on Saturday morning at Ben Hawes Park in Daviess County. The event is a traditional soap box derby bracket style event for children with handicaps and special needs.
The event kicked off with Owensboro’s Sadie Meyer performing the National Anthem.
This year’s event had 9 competitors entered including 2021 Super Kids Classic Series winner Ashton Alsup and 2022 winner, Zeb Wells.
In the final round, it was Ashton Alsup against Jack Clark for the win and ticket to Akron. Alsup, a second grader at Country Heights Elementary took home the win and will race in the Super Kids Nationals Race in July in Akron, Ohio. Even though Alsup won in 2021, he did not get to attend the finals in Akron due to Covid.

The Iron Legacy Motorcycle Club volunteered at the event with getting racers out of their cars, and the cars back to the start of the track.
