Owensboro, KY- Today, at a special-called Board of Education luncheon meeting, the Daviess County Board of Education approved a two-percent salary increase for every DCPS employee along with an experience increase for all eligible staff. Every spring, the Finance Department presents the next school year salary schedule to the Daviess County Board of Education. This year that includes an all-district employee raise of two percent and a total of a five percent increase over the last two year period.
In addition to the raise for all employees, the board of education approved market adjustments to select classified employee categories. Based on a rotating schedule, every four years, different categories of classified employees’ salaries are evaluated based on cost of living, the state of the economy and other related factors. This year these categories of classified employees are: bus drivers, mechanics, maintenance staff, computer operations staff, and school food service managers. School Bus Drivers remain a highly critical staffing need of the district. As an example, Bus Driver pay will increase 12.2% as a result of our market adjustments and rotational schedule adopted four years ago.
It should also be noted that the Daviess County Public Schools is proud to be an employer that supports its employees and does its best to take care of them. Further, the DCPS employees, at just 20 work hours a week, receive full benefits that include health insurance and retirement. This all part of our continued efforts to recruit and retain the best staff available to ensure our students are prepared to succeed for life. This approval through the Board of Education puts on display their level of support for public education and how every person who works for DCPS is making a difference in the lives of children in Daviess County.
“I am always impressed by the way our Board supports our educators and staff. They are constantly supporting our schools at events and ceremonies, but with approval of these salary increases, it couldn’t be timed better with Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. Our staff truly deserve it, and everyone works so hard to put Kids First each and every day,” said Superintendent, Matt Robbins.
DCPS Board members agree that the raises are well-deserved and is a way the board is dedicated to keeping valuable people at DCPS.
Board Chairman, Todd Anderson, said, “Education is a vital component of our society, and our people chose to become teachers because of a passion and a love for what they do each day. It is our job as the board to help take care of them as much as possible, while also maintaining fiscal responsibility.”
