Alabama, Dailey & Vincent perform at Ford Center
(Evansville, IN): Fans wrapped around the building on Thursday night to gain entry into The Ford Center in downtown Evansville. Country music fans showed out for a chance to see Country Music Hall of Famers Alabama perform their hits during their 50th Anniversary tour. The Fort Payne, Alabama based group wowed fans for over two hours with hit, after hit.
The show kicked off with bluegrass superstars Dailey and Vincent performing their hits, along with songs off of their new album “Let’s Sing Some Country.” The Grand Ole Opry stars performed for 40 minutes and were a great addition to the ticket for fans of both country and gospel music.
After a brief intermission, the Fort Payne, Alabama country music legends took the stage and kicked off the show with their 1990 hit “Pass it on Down” complete with the original music video playing in the background and adding some nostalgia to the opening ballad.
The 2nd song of the set reminded fans in case that they had forgotten that “If you’re gonna play in Texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band” with their 1983 hit including a fiddle instrumental from Fort Wayne, Indiana’s Megan Mullins.
The hits continued throughout the night including “Feels So Right,” “There’s No Way,” “Dixieland Delight,” “Take Me Down,” and “Angels Among Us” where lead singer Randy Owen talked about his relationship with Danny Thomas and the 900 million dollars raised throughout the years with country music’s involvement with St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Owen had the crowd from Owensboro, KY going wild when he told the story of a wagon salesman who made his way to Alabama and sold the entire community wagons, which led to his grandfather owning an Owensboro Wagon Company Wagon, which Owen still has today.
The front rows of the Ford Center were filled with diehard Alabama fans, and some who were making the country music legends their first concert. One of those was Fordsville’s Kylie Underwood who made the trip to Evansville with her mother and grandmother and were front and center for the concert. Underwood told me that she loves Alabama and her favorite song is “Roll On.” Randy Owen acknowledged the thirteen year old and her neon pink sign during the show.
Fans stayed on their feet during the entire show singing along with the group from Fort Payne, Alabama and showing the group exactly how much both they and their music mean to them.
