The Owensboro police Department is reporting of another scam for the public to look out for. On their social media, OPD says a number of citizens have been contacted recently by someone claiming to be a Lieutenant from the Owensboro Police Department. The phone number they are calling from seems to show it is from OPD, but this is part of the scam. The individual is claiming your identity has been stolen and a warrant would be obtained for you. They claim if you purchase gift cards and give them the information the warrant would be resolved. They ask that do not purchase any gift cards. If you have a warrant, the Owensboro Police Department will not contact you on the phone, nor would they request gift cards as payment.
