Nearly 200 million lightning strikes hit the United States in 2022 and over 4 million of those were in Kentucky. Vaisala X-Weather released weather statistics for 2022 last week and lightning strikes are a critical area of their data. Kentucky ranks as the 15th state with the highest number of strikes last year at 4.6 million. Texas leads the nation with over 27 million strikes followed by Florida, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Mississippi rounding out the top five.
