OWENSBORO, KENTUCKY – Wendell Foster, a local agency serving people with disabilities, is hosting its Fourth Annual First Responders BBQ at Wendell Foster’s Sensory Park on Thursday, July 21 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. The lunch was created to honor local first responders in Owensboro and Daviess County. All first responders in the area are invited to a cookout with free lunch and snow cones, yard games, and a complimentary car wash by Wendell Foster’s Aktion Club.
In 2021, the event returned after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wendell Foster CEO, Doug Hoyt, highlighted the importance of this event in the Owensboro community. “The First Responders BBQ is one way for Wendell Foster to say “thank you” to all of those serving our community as first responders,” said Hoyt. “Their dedication is incredible and serving them lunch is a small token of our appreciation for their service and sacrifice.”
First responders will have the opportunity to interact with Wendell Foster staff and care recipients, as well as other first responders they may typically only see on a work-related basis. Kara Howard, Vice President of Development and Community Engagement at Wendell Foster commented, “We are excited to bring together local first responders to provide fellowship for the people that work so diligently toward the safety of our community.”
RSVP is not required to attend the cookout. Wendell Foster is looking forward to honoring the men and women serving our local community and showing appreciation for the sacrifices they make each day.
